Project Overview

This project involves the creation of a cloud-based site for student resources. The purpose of the website is to provide university students with easy access to study materials, academic resources, useful links and basic learning support through the internet.

The website is hosted on Microsoft Azure using an Ubuntu Linux virtual machine and Nginx web server. This project demonstrates practical skills in cloud computing, Linux server administration, networking, DNS configuration and web server management.

Project Proposal

This project involves the creation of a student resource site that will run on a cloud infrastructure, more specifically on a virtual machine through the use of IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service). The primary objective of creating such a website is to ensure that all student resources are provided in one place, hence making them easily accessible to the students. This system will be developed using a Linux-based cloud server and a basic web interface. The website will facilitate access to learning materials such as lecture notes, PDF documents, and other external learning materials. This system will be very useful and practical for students’ learning process. Besides, this website can be scalable in the sense that it can incorporate new functionalities in the future. Some of the functionalities could be user logins, document upload, and collaborative study sessions. Cloud computing makes it possible for the site to be accessible at any time and from anywhere, and this is quite convenient for the students. It also gives a practical example of how cloud technology can be used for hosting web applications. The application will make use of the Nginx web server. In all, this project can be accomplished in this timeframe and fits the learning objectives for the configurations of cloud computing server management. In the future, this project can be upgraded to become a fully functional and dynamic web application.

MIT License is selected as the license for this project because it is easy to understand and flexible to use. It enables people to copy, change, and distribute the work without any restrictions.
